Calculator formulas, quick-start guides, and answers to common questions.

Calculator Formulas & References

FCR (Feed Conversion Ratio)

FCR = Total Feed (kg) ÷ Biomass Gain (kg)

Measures feed efficiency. Lower FCR = better conversion. Ideal shrimp FCR: 1.2–1.8.

Example: 1500 kg feed ÷ 1000 kg gain = 1.5 FCR

Pond Volume

Rectangular: L × W × D (m³) | Circular: π × r² × D

Calculate water volume for stocking density and chemical dosing. 1 m³ = 1000 liters.

Example: 50m × 20m × 1.5m = 1,500 m³ = 1,500,000 liters

Stocking Density

Density = Total Pieces ÷ Area (m²)

Optimal density varies by species. Vannamei: 60–100/m², Tilapia: 3–5/m².

Example: 100,000 PL ÷ 5,000 m² = 20 pieces/m²

Dissolved Oxygen Saturation

DO% = (Measured DO ÷ Saturation DO) × 100

Saturation depends on temperature and salinity. Target: >70% for most species.

Example: 6.5 mg/L ÷ 8.2 mg/L × 100 = 79.3%

Water Exchange Volume

Exchange = Pond Volume × (Exchange % ÷ 100)

Calculate volume needed for partial water changes. Typical: 10–30% daily.

Example: 1,500 m³ × 30% = 450 m³

Harvest Revenue

Revenue = Biomass (kg) × Price/kg

Estimate revenue based on current market prices and expected harvest weight.

Example: 2,125 kg × ₹850/kg = ₹18,06,250

Profit Margin

Margin = ((Revenue − Cost) ÷ Revenue) × 100

Net profitability after all expenses. Target: >25% for sustainable operations.

Example: (₹18L − ₹12L) ÷ ₹18L × 100 = 33.6%

Biomass Estimation

Biomass = Pieces × Survival Rate × Avg Weight (g) ÷ 1000

Estimate total harvestable biomass from stocking data.

Example: 100,000 × 0.85 × 25g ÷ 1000 = 2,125 kg

Aeration Requirement

HP needed = Biomass (kg) × O₂ demand ÷ Aerator output

Calculate aerator horsepower needed based on stocking and species oxygen demand.

Example: 2,000 kg × 2 mg/L/hr ÷ 1.5 kg O₂/HP = 2.7 HP

Delta-T Risk

ΔT = Air Temp − Water Temp

Temperature differential risk assessment. |ΔT| > 5°C indicates stress risk.

Example: Air 35°C − Water 28°C = ΔT 7°C (High Risk)

Feed Cost per kg Biomass

Cost/kg = (Feed qty × Price/kg feed) ÷ Biomass gained

Calculate the feed cost component of production cost.

Example: (1500 kg × ₹45/kg) ÷ 1000 kg = ₹67.5/kg biomass

Survival Rate

Survival = (Harvest count ÷ Stocked count) × 100

Track mortality and survival performance across crop cycles.

Example: 85,000 ÷ 100,000 × 100 = 85% survival
